Wood engraving

A 10 week introduction to wood engraving, a delicate and powerful printmaking technique, whose most well known local practitioners were Eric Ravilious and Eric Gill.

We will be covering the history, tools, image making and printing.

A practice block of wood, ink and paper will be supplied. Use college tools or bring your own. Extra wood blocks and cutting surfaces can be purchased during the class.

Etching

Over this 6-week course you will explore a range of etching processes, including dry-point and soft and hard ground etching. I will show you a range of ‘inking-up’ techniques and a number of other printing possibilities. You will need to supply paper (Snowdon 300gsm), drawing tools, and masking tape, which can be purchased in Hastings College art shop at a discounted rate.
